Which type of yoga is right for you?

Updated: Aug 7, 2023

You don't have to be particularly fit to start a yoga practice.

Anyone can begin yoga that involves a few physical postures.

It doesn't have to be a long exhaustive session. 10 minutes a day when your mind is completely obsorbed in the practiced is enough to get you started. Yoga classes can be energetic or physically demanding or more mediative and can include chanting. Postures can be held for different lengths of time and performed at different speeds.

Restorative yoga uses props such as blocks, bolsters and cushions to support the body,

allowing you to relax completely. In Yin yoga postures are held for longer in order to stretch into the deep muscle tissue called fascia. More energetic styles of yoga such as Ashtanga yoga or Power yoga, features a dynamic flowing set of postures. There are many types and schools of yoga such as Kundalini yoga, Iyengar yoga, Sivandana yoga, Bhatki yoga, Forrest yoga, Rocket yoga and many more. It is important to find a style of yoga to suit you.
